Desert Storm 2022

The annual poker run, where the powerboats come to gather and shoot it out for the top speeds in classes, this event kicks off the poker run season. This event was what brought us to Lake Havasu 12 years ago; Frisini Motorsports brought their 32′ catamaran ~ we ran 136 MPH, it was the fastest I’ve ever gone in a boat… But for us we loved this quaint town (which isn’t so quaint anymore as the event draws in almost 100K people)… We drove around looking for property and houses, had we have moved forward with that our lives would have been very different but our connection to this place never really waned. John would walk away from boat manufacturing in 2010 and retire from boats, although his heart and mind was always still on the boats. After a year a half in Dominican Republic, what he called his semi-retirement, we came back to travel around the USA and Canada. We were drawn here on a few occasions one of the first houses we came back to was on the North side of town, and the last home we were in was central… after taking him back to Ohio for his family and childhood friends final goodbyes, I somehow gravitate back here.

I had been hiding solo in my home that I hadn’t even really thought about Desert Storm this year, then I wound up behind this boat… a 50′ Hustler Powerboat at the time I didn’t think I knew the owner or else I would have followed him down to the water, but in fact I remember designing his crew shirts and ya know what I wonder if he’s still wearing them all these years later.

After two years of hiding, I poked my head out, braved the crowds, well sort of I had my headsets on the entire time until I saw a few other girls head over to this table, I went to go pick up a keychain and one of the girls said, hey I’ve got a top for you, will you wear it… YES, sure!
Str8up, felt good, to be out again…
